Elizabeth Allen Atelier

For a decade, luxury bedding addicts were only able to find Elizabeth Allen’s award-winning designs online. Finally, Allen has opened a storefront.

Elizabeth Allen Atelier, located in the trendy Bird Rock neighborhood of La Jolla, offers customers delightful bedding at a great price, and some of the most unique and seriously cute gifts from around the globe.

These days people may not feel comfortable splurging on Allen’s 19th century French country inspired duvets, hand-stitched coverlets, organic cotton sheets or tailor-made baby bedding. But if you buy in her store, rather than the internet or one of the many other bedding stores you can find EAA, you’ll get it 30-50 percent cheaper.

Allen is a Vassar grad with a degree in French Literature. After graduating, she moved to Paris and became Bureau Fashion Editor at WWD and W Magazine. She has also worked for Chanel and Lagerfeld. While living in New York as both an editor and stylist, in 1998 she turned her passion for fabric design into the bedding guru she is today. She’s been featured in magazines like Elle Decor, O at Home and Better Homes and Gardens. Her fabrics of 100 percent combed Percale are printed in India with European dyes, free of chemicals that are allowed in the United States. The fabrics are then sewn by piece in the United States, in New York and Los Angeles. She has also launched an organic line called Eu Natural, using 100 percent organic cotton, grown without toxic chemicals or pesticides.

Her signature colors–mocha and mauve–decorate the walls, while velvet curtains separate the baby side from the grown-up side of the store. Allen is a lover of shopping online and in flea markets. There are treats for the senses everywhere you look—on shelves, in baskets, hanging, folded, stuffed and wrapped.

Around the store there are such beckoning gifts as, Kurta tops for Mom and baby made in India by Karma Living, aprons by Funktion, a mom-and-pop company out of L.A., hand-made purses from En Gry and Sif, a Scandinavian company dedicated to fair-trade and ethical treatment of workers, peace sign rings, in honor of the 20th anniversary of the peace sign, wine totes, dog toys, children’s books, fabric trivets, non-toxic and kid-friendly finger-nail polish and of course, Allen’s beautiful bedding.
