Creative Nail Design Co-Founder and Style Director–Jan Arnold
Jan Arnold is the Co-Founder and Style Director of Creative Nail Design. The CND team has been prepping the nails of thousands of models for top designers for the last fifteen years.
Arnold and her team were at the Del Mar Race track for “Pink Day” this past weekend, offering free Shellac manicures in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Shellac is the newest product launch for CND. Shellac offers a 2-week, no chip option for nails, all without causing any damage to a person’s natural nails.
When it comes to style for your nails, Arnold knows it all.
Here’s what she had to say–
1. Fall 2011 nail trends?
This fall, manicures are emerging in waves of rich jewel tones, earthy and warm shades, and comfortable colors – as cozy as a boyfriend’s t-shirt.
Beautiful rich gem tones! We are releasing a limited edition Colours & Effect trio called CND The Look: Fall/Winter 2011, comprised of Midnight Sapphire (a deep cobalt blue crème), Dark Amethyst, (a velvet aubergine crème), and Sheer 24K Sparkle, (a gold lamé effect).
These new polishes were seen on the runway at Sachin & Babi, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jen Kao and Monique Lhuillier.
2. Long or short?
Short French Manicures are way too sporty, and single colors on short nails are too menswear. Instead, go for a 2 tone; add texture, length, and sex-up the shape (go almond)!
3. One or two fun NYFW stories she’d like to share?
We once created individually crafted, finely beaded, hand-painted Faberge Egg nails that opened like a locket to the designer’s logo. They took days for each one to be created! They were amazing and the designer was thrilled.
4. Definition of her personal style?
My style is avant-garde. I like high-tech structure, sharp lines, masculine elements, and pointy details (like nails and shoes). I look for a sense of humor in my clothes, with unexpected details that entertain. I love all the Japanese designers; in particular I love Yohji Yomomoto, Comme de Garcon, Junya Wantenabe. Their designs are inventive, extraordinary, unique and timeless. There is always a unique twist or a scale that seems out-of-proportion, until you put it on. I have pieces from these designers that I will wear forever.
5. Favorite way to spend a day in San Diego?
My favorite way to spend a day in San Diego in soaking up the sun, relaxing and jogging along the coast near my home. I relish these moments in nature before heading to Fashion Week in the concrete jungle of NYC!
